It's Fridaaaaay, Reader!
Whether we like it or not, we're hurtling head first into the holiday season. With Thanksgiving right around the corner and the annual holiday parade tomorrow here in Raleigh, joy and excitement is in the air. We haven't been in years, but may brave the crowds, as it's such a fun way to kick off the season.
The questions we're tackling this week include:
- Two-story windows
- A pair of facing sofas
- Stacked Stone Fireplace
The applied molding between the windows above is a nice detail, as well. You could certainly follow my advice above without it, though.

With a pair of chairs between the sofas (facing perpendicular to the sofas), make sure there's room for foot traffic either on the outside of the pair of chairs, or in between them. It's tough to know the circumstance without more info, but generally you don't want to create a U shaped layout, only open on one side.
I LOVE talking about "fixed elements" and "hard fixtures" in a space. These are the elements that are more permanent and thus should be carefully considered.
Building a classic, timeless backdrop is my recommendation when possible.
Creative, unique, surprising elements do have a place, but for the average home, I encourage getting creative with things that are easier to change down the road.
